The closure of the resort gave Orient-Express Hotels the opportunity to build the much anticipated Sian Nah (Mayan for “house of heaven”) suites. Each of the eight new ocean front suites is a complete sanctuary equipped with its own spa space for massages and spa treatments, a wellness area with fitness equipment, a living room, a bedroom, and a spacious outdoor terrace with private plunge pool, lounge area and dining palapa. Rates start at US$1465.00 (£841*) per night.
The Sian Nah suites have been built in Maroma’s handmade style; organic architecture with rounded walls and edges that undulate like waves accented by large expanses of windows and doors that allow the outdoor to flow effortlessly into the interior.
“Returning after the storm and seeing the damage was heart breaking to all of us. The entire team is like family and the property is a very special place to us and to our past guests” commented Felipe Espinoza, General Manager of Maroma Resort and Spa. “However, it is inspiring to see what we have accomplished after only 16 weeks and when guests experience our new spa suites, they will understand why Maroma has gained a reputation for its beauty, serenity and soul.”
Built-by-hand in the tradition of the Mexican haciendas, Maroma Resort and Spa offers personal service, warm hospitality and unsurpassed privacy. Set on a former 500-acre coconut plantation that borders the Caribbean Sea, the hotel is amongst the most sought after places on the Riviera Maya for its unspoiled beach and jungle. The property features three restaurants, two tennis court, three pools, a cultural palapa, and the full service Mayan inspired Kinan Spa. Located off of the world’s second largest coral reef, the hotel is a mecca for snorkellers and scuba enthusiasts, and offers a full service water activity palapa for sailing, kayaking and scuba certification. It is fast gaining a reputation as “the” celebrity hideaway on the Riviera Maya, recently hosting Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes, Sean Penn and Cameron Diaz.
Orient-Express Hotels, Trains and Cruises (www.orient-express.com) is a hotel and leisure company providing luxury travel experiences for discerning travellers in areas of outstanding cultural, historic or recreational interest. Founded in 1976 when the company acquired Hotel Cipriani in Venice, Orient-Express owns or has investments in 50 businesses: 39 highly individual hotels, three restaurants, six tourist trains and two river cruise operations, located in 22 countries worldwide. The company believes that discerning travellers will choose a famous individual property in preference to a chain brand, so none of its businesses is called Orient-Express except the fabled Venice Simplon-Orient-Express luxury train which operates through Europe, linking London, Paris and Venice. Orient-Express chooses to own or part-own its businesses, believing equity returns are greater than management fee income alone and continues to seek out unique properties with expansion potential and introduce new experiences, restoring romance, glamour and style to international travel.
