DISCOVER ‘CLASSIC SCOTLAND’ BY ROAD AND RAIL WITH THE ROYAL SCOTSMAN IN 2006

24 April 2006

This exclusive package is available to guests booking a four night classic journey on board The Royal Scotsman.  It includes 2 days classic car hire enabling guests to explore the Scottish Borders and Da Vinci Code country around the famous Rosslyn Chapel, 1 night dinner, bed and breakfast at Greywalls Country House Hotel, followed by 4 nights on board The Royal Scotsman on the Classic itinerary.  The package costs from £6650 for two people, depending upon car chosen.

Guests have 2 days to leisurely cruise Scotland’s stunning countryside in one of the many vintage cars available from the Classic Car Club, Edinburgh, including a 1964 Jaguar Mk2 3.8 manual overdrive saloon or a 1969 Mercedes 280SL Pagoda convertible. With the open road ahead guests can explore Scotland’s beauty at leisure before staying overnight at the elegant Greywalls Country House Hotel, situated close to the Firth of Forth at Gullane.

Greywalls is a delightful country hotel located in a scenic and undiscovered region of Scotland and is the perfect haven for an idyllic escape. Greywalls boasts uninterrupted views - to one side, over Muirfield and the Firth of Forth - to the other side, over the gardens and the gentle rolling farmland to the Lammermuir Hills. It offers the most gracious of home comforts in lovely surroundings in this magical part of Scotland. The ‘Classic Scotland’ package includes 1 night at this rural retreat, dinner, bed and breakfast. After breakfast guests have the car for the second day to further explore the surrounding area before making their way into the heart of Edinburgh for the 4 night ‘Classic’ journey onboard The Royal Scotsman.

For a quintessentially Scottish experience The Royal Scotsman’s 4 night ‘Classic’ itinerary is a reminder that there is no need to travel across the world to find spectacular scenery, cultural inspiration and moments of tranquillity. The train takes in Scotland’s dramatic Eastern coastline rolling through Fife, skirting Dundee and Elgin before heading west through the Highlands to the picture book village of Plockton and onto Kyle of Lochalsh, where the beautiful Isle of Skye shimmers in the distance.

The journey includes off train excursions which include the chance to take a boat trip to spot wild seals, wander through Highland Estates, spend the morning fishing and enjoy a traditional ceilidh.

Accommodating just 36 guests the atmosphere on board The Royal Scotsman is reminiscent of a private country house party. The changing landscapes can be admired from the lounge or open veranda of the train’s Observation Car, traditional Scottish fare enjoyed in one of the two dining cars or guests can simply unwind in their en-suite State Cabin, beautifully fitted out in rich woods and inlaid marquetry.
